Lawsuits Detail Gruesome Surgeries That Premie's Face After Being Fed Enfamil and Similac Infant Formula

The legal system is the vehicle to hold manufacturers of infant formula accountable for the suffering they cause to children

Tuesday, January 18, 2022 - Lawsuits continue to be filed alleging that infant formula manufacturers deliberately mislabeled their cow's milk-based premature baby formula as being equal or superior to a mother's breast milk and causing life-threatening permanent, irreversible injuries. NEC formula lawsuits detail the injuries that premature babies have suffered allegedly from being fed Enfamil and Similac infant formulas that were specifically chemically designed for the unique nutritional requirements of a premature baby. These infant formulas are being rejected by the delicate digestive systems that a premature baby has. Scientists widely believe that only a mother's premature breast milk is nutritionally perfect to feed a baby born prematurely. Scientists agree that the mother's breast milk should be pumped and stored and fed to the infant. Doctors have sometimes made the mistake of adding artificial chemically synthesized infant formula and contaminating the mother's milk. Studies indicate that artificial synthesized cow's milk-based formulas are three times as likely to develop NEC than those given a mother's breast milk.

A couple of weeks ago, a California mother filed an Enfamil and Similac baby formula lawsuit alleging that the cow's milk-based baby formula caused her child to develop necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) and injuries and seeks general and special damages, and holding the baby formula manufacturer to blame. According to the NY Legal Examiner, the baby struggled for life after suffering the side effects of the infant formula that almost cost his life. "The baby developed several painful and difficult symptoms, including abdomen obstruction with partially digested formula, blood in the stool, difficulty breathing, and acute neurological deterioration. The baby underwent surgery to remove one-third of his small and large intestines." The lawsuit names the two infant formula manufacturers, Abbott Laboratories and Mead Johnson & Company, as defendants accusing them of failing to warn them about NEC formula risks, and the studies that show premature babies that are fed infant formula have a greater likelihood of developing NEC. Another lawsuit just in shows that a premature baby needed surgery and was left permanently injured with short bowel syndrome after being fed the infant formulas and developing NEC that required surgery. According to AboutLawsuits, the lawsuit against the maker of Similac premature baby infant formula failed to warn the parents, leaving them unable to make an informed feeding decision. "Significantly higher rates of NEC have been found in premature or preterm babies with low birth weights who are fed cow's milk-based formula or fortifier products," according to the Similac formula lawsuit. "The companies who manufacture these products often intentionally mislabel and misrepresent the contents of the products both to the public-at-large and to the health care community, passing off these deadly products as something similar to or even superior to human breast milk." The parents of premature babies that have been fed cow's milk infant formula and developed NEC as a result should speak with a NEC formula lawyer to see if they qualify to file a lawsuit against the manufacturers for failing to warn about the dangers of feeding it to premature babies.
